The Wooster s.C.R.A.P.P.E.R.S. placed third overall in Division I at WEFTEC in Chicago. In doing so the team also placed 1st overall in the Laboratory, 3rd in Maintenance and 3rd in Process Control events. Team members Kevin Givins (Capitan), Bob King, D.J. Reichert and Jim Borton, competing together for the last time, managed to stay close to the top all day, but just didn’t have enough points at the end of the day to overcome the Texas Crewsers (Trinity River Authority) and the L.A. Wrecking Crew, two perennial powerhouses in the competition with six national titles shared between them.

The Cincinnati MSD SillyEights represented Ohio WEA in Division II. Cincinnati placed 17th overall (out of 31 teams in Division II). Cincinnati proved to be a competitive team, but couldn’t overcome some bad breaks that happened to them along the way. However, the team placed in top half of the competition in the Laboratory and Collections events. Ohio’s Division I contest next year between the two teams on May 28, 2009, should be an exciting event to watch!

It should be noted that several Ohio WEA members also traveled to Chicago to serve as judges in various events. Ohio’s representatives included: Jane Winkler (Lab), Kim Riddell, Jim Lee and Ed Nutter (Safety), Doug Sayre and Mick Stebelton (Maintenance). Without volunteers such as these the event would never take place.

Finally, much appreciation goes to the many OWEA sponsors and OWEA itself, for supporting the Ohio contest as well as the teams’ travel to Chicago. Look for a listing of all the supporters in this issue of the Buckeye Bulletin!
